Jag är en äventyrare med ett bottenlöst behov av att utforska. Genom mina resor har jag fått erfara problematiken turismen medför. Jag söker efter ett etiskt alternativ till konventionell konsumtionsturism.

New Year In Germany

Still recovering from the most amazing new year in a long time. Seriously. Nights of dancing, a masquerade, delicious food…Wine. Drinks. Talking. Laughter.

Left helsinki 27.12 in the evening and arrived late to Munich. I had a horrible train trip, arrived to Hambach at 7 in the morning, then I took a local buss. I never take time to check how to get somewhere in advance, so when I got out from the bus it was a pleasant surprise that it only took 5 min to walk to our house as there was no taxis around. I want to send a love letter to googlemaps.
My trip was so poorly prepared so I was sure the whole week will be destroyed. Oh how great it is to be wrong!

When  I arrived to the house in the morning, the first thing i did was looking for the bathroom. Viivi had left the gate and kitchen door opened. So I finally got to the toilet, and texted my sister "I'm here" (multitasking). Returned back to the kitchen, and after a while a very sleepy, cute Viivi appears.

And then the Finnish team turns upp, then the German, then the Italian… Faces I've mostly only seen on new years. Faces i can only connect with laughter, smiles, FOOD,  long car trips. Different european accents. A welcoming hug here and a welcoming hug there.

The day of my arrival we went walking to a nearby castle on hill, saw the blue sky and the Neustadt view. The next day I spent in the house while some left to watch ski jumping live, and others went to see some villages. I loved having time for my self in the huge, beautiful house! And of course I had company from the newest member in the NY club, Paula, the eater. She's a black beauty with a mild heart and a stomach that no one can satisfy. Labrador. Took her for a long walk to the forrest on the mountains close to our house.

The night before NYE we had a masquerade. I was dressed as a hippie with loots of years on me, tried to live in to the role by… hippiestuff that no one who wasn't there will be impressed or laugh about, so I leave it as a memory. Altogether we were three hippies. One was dressed as grumpy cat, another was a terrorist… of course the house was full of German traditional dresses too! Next day we rested, and then it was time for the NYE dinner. Our dinner room was amazing, a big party space. We ate racletes with a lot of fillings (to avoid cooking on NYE) but of course there was a lot of work behind the dinner. It was food heaven that night! And the glass was never empty. Then we danced. Its funny, couse  music I didn't use to like as a teenager sounds nowdays  good at 4 am. And btw, team Finland knows how to party, no one can beat us. Ok, Italy was almost there on NYE. You know who you are.

In total were 16 persons, since 8 years they have met up on every new year, I see why. Participated 3 times now, and wow, what a great possibility to rent a luxury house (as were many persons) without getting broke. The main group of NYE celebrators are just all very nice and funny personalities. I got the invitation trough my sister and her husband, they all did erasmus together.

The week was almost perfect. But there was one person missing. A person who makes me feel that I want to share my experiences with him. Hello Helsinki ;)
